A quick check of the calendar reveals that it is March 22.  We are approximately one-third into this new year of 2012.  We just had the Spring Equinox.  The weather is getting warmer, the birds are starting to chirp, things are looking very good!  But maybe not for your business.  It could be another challenging year for growing it.  However, there are many businesses large and small posting record profits, and that is a very encouraging sign!  Carol Tice, over at Entrepreneur.com provides some interesting findings from the Guardian Life Small Business Research Institute.  There are several different ways to optimize your business!

  1. Prepare, even expect problems.  Nearly half of all high growth business owners prepared for tapping cash reserves if their revenue took a dive.  Only about 37%, where sales were declining said they would do so.  These same growth companies were also much more willing to borrow money.
  2. Get advice!  The high growth owners said they would immediately go to any of their key contacts for advice on what it is they could or should be doing to quickly reverse any negative trend.  The others, newspapers and television.
  3. Borrowed money.  The successful businesses used the borrowed money to reinvest in the company for research and development, while the others opened offices, and made new hires.
  4. Focus on knowledge.  The high growth owners made sure they learned any and everything to ensure that their company would keep trending upwards, including making long-term business goals.
  5. Enjoying work/life balance.  The successful ones said they had a better at home time.
  6. A clear road map.  60% of high growth businesses stated having a clear direction on where to take the company as a clear factor in their success.

You can find the success you have been looking for.  Perhaps you are a little scattered, get organized.  Perhaps you don’t know what to do with your investments, make a plan.  It all comes down to hard work and determination and you can find your way!

Leadership is not just something that comes naturally, although it certainly can.  Leadership is a skill that can be learned, be it in the work place, your local community, whatever the case may be.  Leader is really just another word for expert.  That is, someone whom you would want to follow because they possess a knowledge or skill that you do not and you want to either learn from them, or use their knowledge or skill to your advantage.  Let us face it, leaders are inspiring people.  We want to be like them, and that is the point that Jason Better makes in this blog post.    What is more is that he writes his post with 25 words that leaders should live by:

Focus. Keep your eye on the ball.

Honesty. Be honest to a fault.

Plan. Have a plan and stick to it.

Passion. Be passionate about your dreams.

Guide. Show others the way.

I’ll leave you with only five of them.  But the rest you can find over at his blog.  I’ll also leave you with some inspirational words by Jim Rohn:

The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.

Leaders are born, but they also can be made!

My post today is all about your niche market, which ultimately comes down to what you are most passionate about.  Finding the right one for your business is essential for your success.  Ultimately, if you do not love what you do, you are not going to want to continue you doing it.  This is the point in a blog post made by Samuel Uherek over at Famousbloggers.net.  Here are just a few things you can look to to choose the right niche:

  • First, why is the right niche essential?  Put your best foot forward.  Do incorrect research, and you could very likely fail trying.
  • The right niche should have a direction that is going to make you money.  This involves the concept of having a product or service to sell to other people that people will want.  It rests on the idea of you solving a problem that someone has.  If you do this, people are going to want to pay whatever it is you are asking for to have this done.
  • Is it the right niche?  As I mentioned above, it comes down to passion.  What is it you really like doing?
  • How to find the niche.  This is easier than it seems.   Simply write down all that you do Sunday through Saturday.  Your hobbies, your daily activities, all of it.  Find a theme?  If so, go with that.  If you think it is not one you can write about, find others utilizing Google Trends, or Google Insight.
  • So you have a list, now what?  Great you have a passion.  Go deeper.  Cross off any interests which don’t have any problems to solve.   Look into the profitability, size and products for the niche and determine if there is enough out there to make a living.

Above all, do not rush.  You want to get this right.  So many are looking towards the internet to make a living, and it is worth it if you find the right thing!  Come up with a plan, and execute that plan.
